When that happens, those loves become “demonic,” self-destructive, and damaging to others. This distinction is important because human Gift-loves (those that already resemble God) can come to be mistaken for divine love. “Nearness” to God, on the other hand, is a spiritual quality that a person must actively seek. “Likeness” to God is something given, by virtue of the fact that human beings are God’s creatures. Lewis expands on the ideas of likeness and nearness to God-they aren’t the same thing. For one thing, human beings never lose their need for God, and this is the way God intends it to be. However, he soon realized that things are more complicated. ![]() ![]() Based on this distinction, Lewis planned to praise Gift-love and criticize Need-love. Therefore, he divided natural human loves into two types- Gift-love (which is God-like, because God is self-giving) and Need-love (which is unlike God, because God lacks nothing). ![]() When Lewis first set out to write about love, his thesis was “God is love” (as St. ![]()

![]() Or are they? How many people know that on November 21st Senator Humphrey gave a speech on mental health in Washington in which he said that the act of an unstable person could strike down a great leader? Or that the next morning in Fort Worth President Kennedy quipped that the night before would have been a hell of a night to kill a president? This aggregate of detail, some of it significant, some of it irrelevant (i.e., Eunice Shriver always wears black when pregnant because it is slimming) both intensifies and extends the immediate experience. And the contents of the book are well known to begin with. The disputed passages have in part been globally disseminated. ![]() ![]() The issues it involves (has history been served? was privacy invaded? were contractual obligations broken?) have already been widely debated. Certainly no book has ever been published under quite these circumstances. ![]() 5/21/2023 0 Comments Jedi twilight![]() ![]() This isn’t a problem in the long run, because we learn to like the ragtag groups of misfits he throws together. One element that gives some readers pause is that Reaves focuses on his own characters’ points of view without explaining why we should care. The events of his novels don’t stick with me as much as those of elite writers like Stackpole, Traviss, Allston and Zahn, but on a paragraph-by-paragraph basis, he’s one of the most enjoyable to read – and perhaps the most underrated. ![]() This feels like equal parts “inexplicable shift in the plotline” and “compelling mystery for the rest of the trilogy.” Secondly, we witness the death of Even Piell, who is already dead at this point, as per “The Clone Wars.” This has a real-world explanation (more on that later), but no fictional answer.Īlready a veteran “Star Wars” author at this point from the “Droids” cartoons and four novels, Reaves’ prose flows nicely – and he has cut back on the use of too-cute “Star Wars” phrases like “heavy isotope” as the equivalent of heavy metal music. First, rather than trying to track down Obi-Wan and Yoda, as one might expect, Vader becomes obsessed with finding Jax Pavan. If you’re following the EU in chronological order, Michael Reaves’ “Coruscant Nights I: Jedi Twilight” (2008) is an oddity for a couple reasons. ![]() ![]() ![]() Ryan Robert Aickman Stephen King Clive Barker Peter Straub Dennis Etchison James Herbert Thomas Ligotti Donald R. The mission is entirely a discovery exercise, not "the Earth is doomed, we must quickly find new home" which so many stories would shoot for. The crew of four humans have been sent to explore outer space and return with their findings. The story is told a message delivered to us - and by "us" the message hopes to be received by Earth.
